March 2007
Greetings from Duncan,
Finally the weather has improved and it has
been great to see so many people enjoying their
golf in the sunshine! The course is recovering
well from all the rain we have had.
Coaching & Fitting
Works
It’s nice to see that ongoing tuition
and club fitting at Hele Park really pays off.
Here are some recent success stories.
Steve Bristow (17) came in with 27 points in
the Midweek Mixed Stableford last week. Steve
has had continued tuition at Hele Park and also
went on the coaching trip to Portugal with Stuart
and myself. He has recently been fitted with
a set of MX900 irons.
Annmarie Cleave (31) only took up golf last summer,
yet so far this month she has won a Ladies’ 9
Hole Stableford. Once the season starts I expect
to see her handicap tumble! She has also had
ongoing tuition through the winter at Hele Park
and was also on the Portugal trip. She has recently
been fitted with new clubs from the PGA collection
and a new TaylorMade Driver.
Hele Park’s shop assistant and rising golfing
star, Ben Martin (3) triumphed in last weekend’s
Men’s Monthly Medal coming in with a net
62. Ben managed to get his putter working and
amazingly birdied the last four holes. Well done
Ben, keep it up. Ben has regular coaching sessions
at Hele Park and has also been fitted with new
Titleist clubs recently.
Devon Girls
We were pleased to welcome the Juniors’ First
Team for a day’s coaching on Sunday 11th
March. The day, led by Stuart Disney, comprised
of a warm up session and swing technique training
using the Driving Range and Indoor Studio. Attention
was then given to RRP - Regular and Relevant
Practice - devised by Stuart to encourage productive
practice, emphasising the quality rather than
quantity of practice undertaken. After a hearty
lunch the girls took to the course to play a
rather sneaky format to force concentration on
the short approach shots to the green.
Hele Park is looking forward to hosting the next ‘Coaching
Days for the Beginner and Intermediate Devon
Girls’ in April.
Safety on the Course
A few golfers have mentioned to me that they
have been slipping on the course due to lack
of grip and/or spikes on their shoes. As a remedy
to this I am offering FREE RE-SPIKING all this
week, and £1 off all sets of spikes.
Easter Junior Coaching
Simon and I will be holding junior coaching clinics,
open to both members and non-members during the
Easter holidays. Each session will be two hours
long and will cover all aspects of the game.
The cost per junior for the full 8-hour coaching
course will be £30, or £10 per day.
For more information please contact the shop.
Yonex Demo Day – Wednesday
4th April 4-8pm
Yonex have won many awards this year, especially
in the Ladies’ and Seniors’ markets,
with their new Nano Speed Shafts, which gives
extra yards for those who need it. Come along
to our demo day and give them a try!
This week its all about fitting – book
a FootJoy ReelFit fitting in the pro shop and
fill out our survey on custom fitting. In order
to provide an even better service to you I want
to know what you think!
Have a great golfing week.
Regards,
Duncan

SUMMER IS COMING
Now is a really good time to check out the basics
with your equipment.
And my first question to you is:
“Are you playing in bare feet?”
Check out the spikes on your golf shoes. I’ve
checked a few around the club and some of you
might as well be playing in bare feet.
I WANT YOUR OPINION ON THIS
I have chatted about the number of golfers who
aren’t fitted and what I think the reason
might be but actually it is your opinion that
counts.
So I would like you to assist
me to gain a better understanding of what the
status of ‘fittings’ is
in our club along with the opinions on the subject.
I am conducting this survey
with around 80 of my PGA colleagues, so not
only will we get to see what are the opinions
in our own club, but we’ll also get to
see how those opinions compare with the attitudes
across quite a broad group of golfers.
CLICK
HERE and go through to my web page and
you’ll have only 5 questions to answer,
it’ll take less than 60 seconds, and I
will publish the feedback for everybody to see.
And make sure the rest of your four ball has
filled in the survey. The more respondents the
more valuable the results.
Ping
Ping was first to introduce the concept of fitted
golf clubs for golfers.
At first this fitting was
done for the Ping Pro’s (and the results
were spectacular) but they then went on to
introduce the concept to golfers of all levels.
The ‘Heel-Toe Weighting revolution’ that
aimed to make ball striking easier for the average
golfer was introduced first by Ping in 1962 through
a special patent.
Ping introduced the heel-toe
weighting clubs, which started the game improvement
revolution’,
in 1969.
Ping fitting was popularised by the
Ping colour coding chart
for Club Length and Lie Angle fitting.
See my survey (on the left) or click
here to
go through to the survey web page.
BOOK YOUR REELFIT FITTING WITH YOUR PRO
Over the past two weeks I have spoken to you
about the importance of choosing the correct
golf shoe. Buying a golf shoe is an investment
that will aid you in a more enjoyable 18 holes.
The new Reelfit shoe from
FootJoy with their new ‘no laces’ technology
means a snug fit is just a twist away. Would
you like more stability throughout your round?
Click on the banner below and book your ReelFit
fitting with me in the pro shop today and if
your size is out of stock I can get it within
48 hours. Better to wait now than have another
18 holes of discomfort.
Have a great week and good luck to all of you
playing this weekend.
Regards
Duncan
